Santander is developing one of the fastest and most innovative cloud adoption projects in the world. With 90% of our infrastructure already migrated to the cloud, we are committed to a hybrid cloud strategy that allows us to exploit the benefits of the public and private cloud.

We're migrating our entire core banking system, one of the largest in the world, to the cloud. Gravity is a software tool based on Dual Run developed entirely by Santander to achieve this purpose and which has established us as a benchmark in the sector. The first divisions to show potential for its use were Santander Corporate UK and Santander Consumer Chile, which are both already 100% cloud-based.

In order to effectively maintain security, we work with the best infrastructure and a cyber defence strategy based on global towers: Protect, Detect, Respond and Fraud Prevention. We are obsessed with finding the perfect balance between super-robust systems and a seamless customer experience across all our channels.

Cyber threats are constantly increasing, so we also need to make sure we are always up to date. We collaborate with top universities and organise bootcamps and Capture the Flag (CTF) challenges to share knowledge. In addition, we invest in ultra-specialised companies to form strategic partnerships and drive innovation in this field.

Software engineering is key to the Santander Group’s digital transformation process. We are in the midst of a transition to a global platform-based model, which will allow us to leverage the power of all our teams around the world. We are creating a common platform for developers applying a solid API-First strategy, where all entities and teams collaborate to leverage all the best capabilities across the Group.

We are driving Santander into a digital bank with branches. Our Models and Data team has the superpower to turn the bank into a data-driven company, where the flow of data is leveraged to achieve key business objectives. These objectives include improving the experience of our over 160 million customers, developing better products and services, and increasing efficiency in internal operations.

At Santander we have five Data Processing Centres or DPCs around the world, all of which are built in bunker format and in ‘twin’ mode, i.e. they are duplicated to ensure that the data of our customers’ operations are stored as securely as possible.

To guarantee quality and security for all our customers, all operations are monitored 24/7 365 days a year by Fusion Centres in Europe, Mexico and Brazil. These specialised monitoring centres apply the ORA (Observe, Resolve and Analyse) model using the ALMA global platform. We monitor and analyse changes in behavioural patterns like veritable ninjas!
